Resumen
Trąd (choroba Hansena), jedna z najstarszych i najokrutniejszych chorób człowieka, obecnie uleczalna, uważana jest w Europie za całkiem egzotyczną, nie dotyczącą naszego kontynentu. Jednak nieliczne, niedokładnie rozeznane i niedoszacowane przypadki wciąż istnieją w XXI w. Dotyczą one głównie starych, liczących wiele dziesiątków lat ognisk o niskiej endemiczności i lokalnej, najczęściej rodzinnej i sąsiedzkiej transmisji w izolowanych regionach wiejskich niektórych państw.
